Gastrointestinal Problems

There are many Gastrointestinal Diseases that need the urgent care in emergency setup , but we will discuss some of them;

  1. Upper Gastrointestinal Tract Bleeding.
  2. Lower Gastrointestinal Tract Bleeding.
1. Upper Gastrointestinal Tract (GIT) Bleeding:

Definition:
Bleeding from a lesion in the oesophagus, stomach or duodenum above the ligaments of Treits is called upper GIT bleeding.
Upper GIT bleeding presenting with may be;
Hematemesis.
Melena.

Hematemesis; means vomiting of the blood.
Melena; means passage of black tarry stools (50 - 100 ml bleeding).

Causes:
Chronic duodenal ulcer.
Chronic gastric ulcer.
Gastric erosions.
Varices.
Mallory-Weiss tear.
Oesophagitis.
 duodenal erosions.
Cancer of the stomach.
Miscellaneous.

Clinical Findings:
Its depend on the amount of blood loss and its rapidity;
Presenting Complaints:
Vomiting of blood.
Melena.
Coffee ground vomiting.

In Severe bleeding;
Sign & Symptoms; Postural hypotension, Rapid pulse rate, Decreased urinary output, May be in shock, weakness, faintness, nausea, sweating, restlessness and disorientation.

Initial Resuscitative Measures:
